
COURSE OUTLINE
The Diploma in Sport Management consists of 8 courses over two semesters
August 2025 semester
Management and Organisation
This course teaches the basics of management and how businesses succeed through good planning, organisation, leadership, and control. Students will learn how to manage people and teams, understand motivation, decision-making, and how businesses adapt to changes in their environment, including cultural differences.
Marketing
Principles
Students will learn what marketing is and why it’s important for businesses. They will explore how marketing works in different industries, including sports, and how companies use strategies like research and planning to attract customers.
Managing the
Athletic Pathway
Students will learn about the journey athletes take, from starting in sports to reaching the highest levels of competition. The course focuses on how athletes are recruited, developed, and supported along the way, including the challenges they face and the role of coaches and managers in helping them succeed.
LeisurE
Concepts
This course looks at the role of leisure activities in our lives. Students will explore how sports help with relaxation, health, and stress, and discuss issues like overtraining and burnout. The course helps students understand how our culture and society shape our leisure choices.
FEBRUARY 2026 semester
Fundamentals of Sport and Recreation
Students will learn how sport and recreation organisations are run, including how they’re governed, how money is raised, and how volunteers help. The course covers important topics like ethics, professionalism, and the business side of sports.
Commercial Operations in Sport
This course focuses on the business side of sports, teaching students how sports organisations raise money through sponsorships, merchandise, and events. Students will also learn negotiation and sales skills that help sports organisations grow and succeed financially.
Sport Health
And Wellbeing
Students will explore how physical activity and sports can improve mental and physical health. The course looks at the benefits of being active, how sports help prevent illness, and how they impact our overall well-being, while also considering the social and cultural factors that affect our health.
Sport Practicum
(incl. 100+ placement hours)
This course provides the opportunity for students to gain practical experience at AFC and begin applying the knowledge and skills developed in courses throughout their program of study.
Courses are taught both online and in-person at the Adelaide Football Club and UniSA’s City West campus.

Fees
The 1-year Diploma will cost $22,000*, with students able to access the FEE-HELP scheme to defer payment.
Students can access the same student loan system as university students, allowing you to study now and repay later through the taxation system. Further information about fees is available here
*An additional student services fees of approximately $350 per year also applies which gives you access to a range of student support services to set you up for success. This can also be deferred via a SA-HELP loan

Eligibility
The Diploma in Sport Management is open to Australian Citizens and permanent residents passionate about sport. You might be a recent school leaver, taking a gap year, or just seeking a career change. If you’re ready to get the ball rolling on your sports management career, then this diploma is for you.
No ATAR is required for entry.
Applicants can use ONE of the following to apply:

Recent secondary education: Successful completion of SACE or equivalent interstate year 12 or international qualification.

Higher education study: Successful completion of a minimum half year of full-time study with a recognised higher education provider.

Vocational Education and Training (VET): Completion of an award from a registered training organisation at Certificate 3 or above.

Work and life experience, or completed a 12-month UniSA Foundations Studies program or equivalent, or Qualify for Special Entry.

Other entry pathways: Work and life experience, or completed a 12-month UniSA Foundations Studies program or equivalent, or Qualify for Special Entry.

Career Opportunities
Successful graduates from each cohort of the Diploma in Sport Management will have the opportunity to apply for two paid full-time roles with the Adelaide Football Club.
